A 5-minute video which explains how one can reduce their own contribution to climate change by reducing their carbon footprints.

The carbon footprint is basically the excess carbon produced by the excess burning of fossil fuels and deforestation.
The average person produces about 4 tonnes of carbon every year.

People living in the affluent lifestyle, the 10 tonnes is made up of:
Using a car, flying by air, heating and electricity, food & clothes, leisure activities, and building & public services.

Carbon footprints can be reduced by using renewable sources of energy instead of burning fossil fuels to produce electricity.

Personal Carbon footprints can be reduced by changing your lifestyle;
– Structuring your home is such a way that natural cooling can occur, reducing the need to use air conditioning and fans.
– For traveling, if using a car, reduce your speed, or use the train or bus for long distances and walk or cycle for shorter distances.
– Try buying food locally to save transport costs. A bigger way is to avoid eating meat, especially red meat; by growing food for animals which we will later eat, we can grow more crops and get up to ten times as much food for the same land and fertilizers used.
– Most energies from filament light bulbs are heat energy, which is waste. Switch to an LED bulb which is 100% efficient.
– If using a washing machine, make sure it is on the full and low-temperature setting and have a low water usage.
– Recycle unwanted materials, it does cost energy to transport and reprocesses the waste, but it uses less energy than starting with fresh, raw materials.
