• This four minute video revolves around the importance of Biodiversity, and also showcases how
humans have been very exploitive towards it.
• Biodiversity is very important because even the loss of one key species can disturb the whole
food chain.
• Further ahead the 3 main ways are described by which humans have reduced biodiversity on
the earth :
1. Exploitation: Humans historically exploit plant and animal species for short-term profit.
Example-fishing and lumbering
2. Pollution: Human activities pollute air and water. Toxic industrial waste is discharged directly
into water bodies that harm aquatic life . The process of eutrophication is also explained in the
video.
3. Climate: Science has agreed to the fact that human activities such as burning of fossil fuels has
led to global warming. This is harmful to biodiversity because it leads to fluctuating weather
that many species are not able to adapt to.
