This is a 10 minute and 38-second video on how human activities impact the ecosystem
Our lifestyle, especially our love for plastic has put our environment in danger and over a thousand species have gone extinct.
The ecosystem works hard to help us by:
filtering water
sucking Carbon Dioxide
producing our food, etc
But it doesn't look like we are returning the favour.
The environment gives us services in 4 ways
1 Support services- produces new soils and atmospheric oxygen.
2 Provisioning services- give us the raw materials we need to live like the water bodies provide food and sometimes freshwater, animals give us fiber for shelter or clothes and wood, grass gives us fuel.
3 Regulating services- Manage the systems in the ecosystem to prevent dangerous ones from going out of control.
4 The ecosystem is always new to discover.
The top five impacts of human activities on the environment are:
1 Deforestation- cutting down the trees to give us furniture or any other materials.
2 Desertification- caused by overgrazing of cattle, and over-irrigation.
3 Global Warming- due to human activities, primarily fossil fuel burning, which increases heat-trapping greenhouse gas levels in Earth's atmosphere.
4 Nonnative Species- The invasive species may provide little to no food value for wildlife. Invasive species can also alter the abundance or diversity of species that are important habitat for native wildlife.
5 Overharvesting- can lead to the destruction of the resource, and is one of the five main activities – along with pollution, introduced species, habitat fragmentation, and habitat destruction – that threaten global biodiversity today. All living organisms require resources to survive.
