Impact of Lockdown on India’s Environment and Biodiversity

-The 7:00 minute video published by Scroll.in tells us how the lockdown due to COVID-19 affected India’s Environment and Biodiversity.

- According to a 2019 report, we are told that India was being warned by the World Health Organization to reduce the amount of PM 2.5 in the atmosphere. As much as 30 Indian cities are the major contributors to environmental damages and climate change risks.

- The major culprits responsible for this industrial pollution are hazardous chemical factories and vehicular traffic, affecting over 200 million people.

- World’s largest lockdown was enforced on 25 March 2020 in India to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.

- In just a few weeks, many agencies confirmed that the lockdown had caused a dramatic effect on the atmosphere.

- This video also tells us to opt for the adaptive and resilient development module for a healthy ecological balance.

- As per the CEO of the International Forum for Environment, Chandra Bhushan, “We have to convert this temporary change into a permanent one. We saw how the industries were shut, the transport was stopped and therefore the emission was less and that is how we saw cleaner air around us”.
