- The 6 minute video published by Ted-Ed tells about how we can power the world solely on renewable energy.
- To get to 100%, we need renewable resources that are inexpensive and accessible.
- Global energy use is a diverse and complex system, and the different elements require their own solutions, two of which are electricity and liquid fuels.
- The major obstacles in making these renewable resources accessible are: (a) Efficiency and (b) Energy transportation.
- Present day power lines lose about 6-8% of energy they carry because the wire material dissipates energy through resistance. Longer power lines result in higher energy losses.
- This energy loss problem could be avoided by using superconductors, a material that transports energy without dissipation.
- The transition towards all-renewable energies is a complex problem and it involves technologies, economics and politics.
- Priorities on how to tackle this challenge depends on specific assumptions we have to make when trying to solve such a multifaceted problem. And if we could start working towards it, we will get there in time.
