Even during this modern age with advanced technology, oil spills from ships, even from big factories is a major threat to the marine environment.
Most man-made oil pollution comes from man-made activities but unfortunately, the public focuses more on seagoing oil tankers.
Heavier crude oil of less toxicity remains on the surface of the water and it remains for much longer as it is lighter than water and does not decompose, it's highly inflammable which can cause ocean fire.. due to which marine life is affected, fishes die and start floating on the surface of the water.
Thus oil spills as major effects on the economy, social and environment. Fishermen lose their livelihood, the tourism of that particular state is affected. The cleanup costs are enormously high.
Therefore we should take all precautions to avoid oil spills in the ocean and seas.
This will save not only human lives and resources but also marine lives.
